How AI is Changing the Medical Assisting Field, Plus More Emerging Trends in 2025

Emerging Healthcare Trends in 2025

Working as a Medical Assistant requires staying up-to-date on the latest trends and technological advancements in the medical field. Artificial Intelligence (AI), in particular, has recently hit the scene as a major disrupter changing the entire healthcare landscape. Below are three significant healthcare trends for 2025 that our instructors here at Swedish Institute are focusing on in the classroom to ensure that our students are prepared for the ultra-competitive job market they will enter upon graduating.

AI and the Future of Medical Assistants

It might be hard to envision now, but artificial intelligence will soon play a massive role in the medical office. Medical Assistants will likely begin using AI to analyze test results such as X-rays or blood panels. As machine learning improves, AI will also start to help with patient communication by overcoming barriers in language and understanding.

These advancements will drive better patient outcomes and allow medical centers to help/treat more patients. All of which is why AI will start to be a noticeable trend in the medical assisting landscape.

The Rise of Telehealth in Medical Assisting

Telehealth, or the ability for doctors and other healthcare workers to communicate virtually with patients, is on the rise. While this is a great way to ensure fast diagnosis and prevent illness from spreading unnecessarily, it has also changed some ways medical offices operate.

For example, Medical Assistants might notice that the time doctors and other professionals spend with patients will change. Additionally, patients might never even step foot in an office but still work closely with doctors. This means developing a personal connection will be even more crucial to keeping patients happy and informed.

 Mastering Electronic Health Records (EHR)

While electronic health records (EHRs) are not necessarily a new development, correctly understanding how to use EHRs is critical to success as a Medical Assistant.

EHR has made sharing health information between doctors significantly easier and more efficient. There is no longer a confusing paper trail to keep track of, reducing communication errors, and transferring patients from one practitioner to another creates less of a headache than in the past. Like all technology, EHRs are constantly evolving, so it is crucial for a Medical Assistant to know how different EHR software works and what changes to expect in 2025.
