“After graduating from Swedish Institute, I thought it would be impossible to find employment on my own. But with the help from our career advisors, I was able to obtain a wonderful job working from home that fits the needs of myself and my family.”
— Jaquan Eddy, Medical Billing and Coding Class of 2022
“I graduated in June of 2022. I was working in the medical massage therapy field before I even graduated, all due to the power behind the name Swedish Institute. A well-recognized and respected school for massage therapy in New York. I have my own business called Zuri Massage – Massages by Queen, which has been featured in two magazines so far, Voyage ATL and SAGE magazine. I am excelling in my business and couldn’t be more grateful. Fresh out of school, I worked at the Manhattan Medical Healthcare on E 56th Street as a medical massage therapist, which helped shape my career path and challenge my capabilities. I am a VERY proud alumni of the Swedish Institute. Thank you for opening many doors. This is only the beginning!”
— Queenasia Moore, Massage Therapy, Class of 2022
“From the Professors, the academic and student support teams were all synced as a single body geared towards student success. Being a first-generation alumnus, I am a testament to the end result of the Swedish Institute mission.
As a Medical Assistant at Swedish Institute of Health Sciences and currently working at Mount Sinai (enrolled as an RN). The academic and professional challenges given thoroughly set the standard for the medical field.”
— Modou Conteh, Certified Medical Assistant, Class of 2021
“With the completion my studies at Swedish Institute, I was able to join a practice that takes the new meaning of treating patients to a new level. I am able to work within Administrations to provide the information that is possible for the patient to understand their care financially. Studying [medical] billing and coding, I’m able to expand on my experiences and perform better regarding insurances, different visits performed and locate errors that need to be adjusted. The school also showed me another meaning of patience, with myself in being better educated, the career department helping me find great opportunities to encounter and with everyday tasks with patients. Swedish really helped me elevated my career, in more ways than one, thank you.”
— Alexandra Berrouet, Medical Billing and Coding, Class of 2022
“The Swedish Institute taught me the importance of being competent in my line of work and how to provide excellent patient care utilizing the skills I learned during the didactic and practicum portion of the program.
Both Dr. Peerzade and Dr.Sathiyaseelan made the biggest impact on me during my time at the Swedish Institute. Dr. Peerzade was very hands on and made sure I understood each concept before moving forward. Dr.Sathiyaseelan was very attentive to all my questions and concerns and provided excellent feedback on my clinical experience.
The advice I would give someone going into the Medical Assistant field is to take the classes seriously. Follow along the course syllabus, study the material and get plenty of hands on practice to fully master these new skills. When you’re out in the real world working as an MA many patients are going to ask you questions regarding vital ranges, or what’s an EKG and why certain point of care testing is done in the manner it’s collected. So it is very important to practice and study the material to avoid the patients having lack of trust in your abilities.”
— Amillion James, Certified Medical Assistant, Class of 2023
“The staff member/ Instructor that had the biggest impact on me was and still, is Erika Clinton our dean. It’s her patience and calming presence as well as her reassurance when I had so many doubts that helped move me along without a hiccup during my time at Swedish and I’ll forever love her for that!!!
The most important thing I learned at Swedish was how to read with my hands. I learned a new language[…] the language of the body and how it works.”
— Chauncey Kautz, Massage Therapy, Class of 2022
“Coming into Swedish with years of hands-on experience in the physical therapy and fitness coaching background and with extensive knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and body mechanics, I was taken aback by how in-depth The Swedish Institute was able to expand my knowledge even further. It made me fall into a deeper love with a modality I already loved doing. It gave me a greater voice and turned my hobby into a full-time business and now what I consider a special vocation where I’m working to grow all throughout the United States with the hope of one day being a teacher and speaker for the art of Massage Therapy and the many ways it helped heal me as well as how it can help heal the world one person at a time”
— Peter Atanasio, Massage Therapy, Class of 2021
