Application Process

All applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed Application for Admission.
  • Documentation of high school education or its equivalent. Documentation can be in the form of an official high school transcript, official GED diploma and transcript, or official college transcripts documenting the 24 college credits as outlined in section 3.47 of the Rules of the New York State Board of Regents.
  • Official college transcripts, if you have attended college, mailed directly to the school.
  • Two (2) completed Evaluation Forms mailed directly to the school by the individual completing the form.
  • Completed Swedish Institute Health Form.
  • Completed Immunization Form (see the Immunization Requirements section of Requirements for Admission).
  • Documentation of PPD (tuberculosis) screening given no more than six months prior to start of class. (NOTE: An additional PPD screening may be required before starting an externship or clinic practicum.)
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee applies only for the Nursing Program.

Applicants will be contacted and invited to visit the school for an Open House, tour, or interview.

No admission decision will be made without completion of all required application materials.

Successful candidates will complete the registration process, at which time they will be officially enrolled. Classes are limited in size and enrollment is closed when classes are full.

Submitting an Application for Admission does not guarantee admission.

Admission to Swedish Institute is granted only for the semester of acceptance. Applicants who do not start as planned must submit a letter of deferral; otherwise a new application will need to be submitted. International students are welcomed at Swedish Institute. The school is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students.

International Applications

Applicants using an F-1 foreign student or other visa must meet the Requirements for Admission and supply all necessary Application Materials as well as submit the following:

  • Official documents or transcripts of secondary education, translated into English where necessary, and evaluated by a qualified service to demonstrate U.S. high school graduation equivalency.
  • An affidavit confirming the availability of sufficient funds for tuition, related school costs and living expenses while attending Swedish Institute.
  • A bank consular letter stating the applicant’s present balance in a savings and/or checking account.
  • An Ability-to-Pay statement which shows that the applicant has the funds for the full tuition, books and living expenses.

Once an applicant has been granted admission and has registered, the Institute can issue an I-20 in order for the student to apply for an F-1 visa from his/her country of origin.

All applicants who have been educated outside the United States must submit official high school or college transcripts with a translation (if applicable) and an evaluation to show equivalency to United States educational standards. The Institute recommends the Globe Language Services, 319 Broadway, New York, NY 10007, 212.227.1994, for this service; however, any established agency is acceptable. There is a fee for this evaluation, which is payable directly to the agency.

Applicants whose first language is not English may be asked to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if there is a possibility that their language skills might be a barrier to success in the classroom. Applicants must score at least 72 on the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) with the following minimums in each subject area: 16 in Listening, 14 in Writing, 19 in Reading, and 19 in Speaking. Official documents and transcripts must be translated into English, where necessary, and be evaluated by a qualified service to demonstrate course equivalency.

A list of test centers may be obtained from the Educational Testing Service office:
