NewsSchool of Massage Therapy Receives "Community Partner of the Year" Award Beverly Sills Greenough presented the Swedish Institute's Massage Therapy Program with a "Community Partner of the Year" award for 2003 from the New York City Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The presentation took place at the MS Annual Meeting, held on Monday, March 22, 2004 at Lighthouse International on 59th Street in Manhattan. Ms. Sills-Greenough, co-chair of the New York City Chapter, thanked the school and its students for "providing relaxation and recovery for the participants of the Bike Tour and MS Walk. The school has been providing students for several years for these events. Without our community partners, our fund raising efforts could not be as successful as they are." The Bike Tour and MS Walk raise about $2 million each, which is used for researching treatments and supporting individuals with MS. Ericka Clinton, LMT, Director of Offsite Internships, accepted the award on behalf of the Swedish Institute. The Bike Tour and MS Walk are offsite clinics for massage therapy students during their second semester, when they study Assessment and Advanced Western techniques such as Sports Massage. Students apply their knowledge at the offsite, working in a group under the supervision of an experienced and licensed faculty member. Each offsite clinic is generally a one time experience, with a shift of two or three hours. Students in the Massage Therapy Program participate in three offsite clinics during their four semesters of study and practice.
