Massage Therapy team provides respite for mothers at Children’s Hospital
(May 2006)
Massage therapy was an important part of a celebration for mothers held at Children's Hospital of New York Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center on Saturday, May 13, 2006. The special event was a thank you for mothers who volunteer as support for parents with children newly admitted to the hospital; most of the volunteers also have or have had children in the hospital. Many of the children are in for relatively lengthy stays, with transplants, surgeries and diagnostic testing. Thanks to the organizing efforts of the hospital’s Families Together program, the parents become a community brought together by their children’s needs.
This all-afternoon event, held just before Mothers’ Day, took place in the hospital’s two-story atrium lobby. A team of licensed graduates from the Swedish Institute provided massage sessions for over 50 mothers and one dad! Pictured above, at the start of the day, are: Thom Paul, Niamh Van
